Retrospective Topic clusters 2010

The NoAE Innovations-Competition 2010 includes four search fields or four Topic clusters:

Topic cluster 1:

The Vehicle Interior, a special environment

The utilisation of the car (PKW/LKW) is changing with society (aging, urbanisation…) as well as the framework conditions (resources, laws, infrastructure…). The demands are becoming MORE complex and MORE specific. With new functionalities, the vehicle’s interior can contribute to increasing customer benefits. Topic cluster 1 is searching for innovations that address aspects such as: new functionalities inside the vehicle, flexibility of usage, customer convenience and comfort, and individualisation, not to mention the security aspects.

Topic cluster 2:

Communication and IT inside the Vehicle

The automobile is not only a form of transportation; it is also a lifestyle product. MOREover, it fulfils the individual and personal needs of the driver and passengers. Intelligent assistance systems facilitate the driving functions, supply passengers with specific information, make the time spent in the vehicle a positive experience and make the vehicle safer. Useful internet-based services/applications and new functions are integrated or are operated via interfaces. The automobile industry now has to face shorter development and innovation cycles from the consumer electronics industry.

New business models and innovative mobility concepts, such as “better place”, “car2go” and e-mobility for example, have a rapidly increasing need for the networking of information and telecommunications technology (ICT) and the automobile. Topic cluster 2 is searching for ideas and innovations in the ICT sector that help to realise the vision of a “connected world” using the reliable and secure connection of useful information and services with the vehicle.

Topic cluster 3:

Eco-Innovation – New Approaches in CO2 Reduction

A continuous reduction in fuel consumption and therefore less CO2 emissions are the central goals of the automobile industry. In topic cluster 3, innovations are being sought after, which utilise all the possible ways to reduce CO2. This includes the optimisation of the drive train, the increase in efficiency of motors and the acceleration in developing alternative fuels and powertrains. Overcoming driving resistances through the reduction of the vehicle weight and the air resistance, and helping the driver save fuel with assistance systems are of central importance. Furthermore, the energy efficiency of all consumers in the vehicle will be optimised.

Topic cluster 4:

Efficient and Flexible Production

The manufacturing process in the automobile industry is an important competitive factor. Changes in processes, methods, technologies and procedures are being sought for which contribute to making production more efficient and more flexible. Due to lightweight construction, mixed construction, alternative powertrains and demographic changes in assembly, etc., production solutions must be found for these changes in the product as well as for new fields of activity.
